Artist's Comments

Oha, It's about time I submitted something worthwhile to this poor DA account. Anyways, this is a coloring of Kat from Jolly Jack's comic Sequential Art. I always intend to do simple colorings, but manage to go overboard by the time I'm done. Well, no harm done I suppose.

Character is Copyright Phil Jackson

THIS IS FREAKING AWESOME. Love the style, both the sketch style and the coloring.

Decent, for certain reasons, I'm not starting an argument in here though.

:plotting: This is really incredible work, you really brought the original work to life. :O What I really find intriguing is your extensive use of textures, like the way you jaggedly shade the tail and the shine effects on the hair. May I ask what techniques you used? I would assume mostly burn and dodge and then a little yellow shine for the highlights?

For the texture of the fur, what i did was shade her as if I was cell shading on a different layer. Once I did that, I took the smudge tool and simple made quick strokes in the direction the fur would grow naturally (assuming anthros were real XD)

As for the hair, I made one very bright stroke with the dodge, and did several careful strokes with the smudge. Then did burn on the edges of the hair, and smudged that inward, to get a balance.

I've always looked at other people's colorings and I realize I seem to have a very unique way of doing things, I don't know if that's a good or bad thing :)

Also, fyi, the grass is the default Photoshop brush. It can look good if you know how to use the thing :D
